Video: What You Need To Know About Cyber Threat Intelligence

By Marcos Colon

The term cyber threat intelligence gets thrown around a lot, especially on show floors teeming with security practitioners being approached by vendors with the solution to all their problems. But fundamentally, are organizations successfully leveraging the tactics surrounding it?

In some cases, yes, according to Lance James, chief scientist at Proofpoint, but the infosec community has ways to go.

“Cyber threat intelligence is a component of a bigger picture in intelligence,” James says. “The issue is there’s a limitation to that understanding and infosec doesn’t necessarily have the trained discipline in intelligence, and it’s two different disciplines.”

In this recent interview with Infosec Insider, James discusses why organizations have a difficult time with cyber threat intelligence, what improvements can be made, and the role that automation plays.

With increasing benefits tied to implementing a cyber threat intelligence programs, organizations are in need of gaining more insight into the topic.

This coming December, MISTI will be hosting the highly anticipated Threat Intelligence Summit in New Orleans, where top industry experts will discuss an array of topics that surround threat intelligence.

The event aims to empower security practitioners by providing them with insights that allow them to anticipate, detect, and respond to incidents faster and more effectively.
