Snapchat clarifies updated policies, uses layman’s terms

Snapchat released a statement to settle confusion and clarify the purpose of the updated Privacy Policy and Terms of Services that it released last week.

“The main thing we did was to rewrite the Terms and Privacy Policy so that they'd read the way people actually talk," the company said in its Nov. 1 blog. "We always try to be upfront and clear with our community.”

The company added that the updated terms also include language to its Terms of Service regarding in-app purchases and other products and services the company currently offers or will offer in the near future.  The updates also clarified what information will be visible to make it easier for friends to find each other on the platform as well and instructions to modify these settings.

Snapchat repeated the assertion that it doesn't stockpile private Snaps or Chats and that it continues to delete the files from its servers as soon as they're read. The company also stressed that it could not and does not share them with advertisers or business partners.

It did say that the Terms of Service grant a broad license to use the content its users create but maintained that users could opt out in their privacy settings.
