There was a lot of talk surrounding the social media campaigns that attempted to erode the trust in our democracy during the 2016 presidential election, but not too much was said about the voting machines themselves. Yes, there was plenty of coverage surrounding the vulnerabilities discovered in voting machines during the DefCon Voting Village event, but it feels as though that news continues to be drowned out by the social media election meddling campaigns that resulted in Facebook and Twitter executives getting grilled by Congress.
As we head into the 2020 election, where are we when it comes to voter machine security and what really needs to be done seeing as the events in 2016 will likely be duplicated in the next presidential election?
To answer those questions InfoSec Insider caught up with Rapid7’s Director of Research Tod Beardsley. In the video interview below, Beardsley highlighted what you should know about these machines and their security and what more needs to be done for the coming 2020 elections.
