Not enough data education within Canada corporations

Are Canadian companies courting data disaster?

That is the implication of a survey that found that 57 percent of C-level executives in large Canadian companies do not educate employees about data security, storage and destruction.

The survey of 100 large organizations, conducted by Ipsos Reid for the data destruction company Shred-It, indicated that although protocols are in place training is spotty.

An associated survey of 1,000 small business owners found that 40 percent have no data security protocols. And, twenty-two percent of small business owners reported having little or no awareness of the legal requirements for storing and disposing of confidential data.
