NSA looks to fill new civil liberties and privacy officer position

As the public digests details of the National Security Agency's surveillance tactics, the agency has begun its search for a civil liberties and privacy officer (CLPO).

A recent job posting at NSA's website says that the CLPO would serve as the primary advisor to the agency's director, Gen. Keith Alexander. In addition, the newly created position would entail “ensuring that privacy is protected and civil liberties are maintained by all of NSA's missions, programs, policies and technologies,” the posting said.

The hire would be based at NSA's headquarters in Fort Meade, Md. and receive up to $173,000 for the gig. The CLPO position pulls the responsibilities of NSA's civil liberties and privacy protection programs under single guidance.
