Although a group self proclaimed as “Official Cyber Caliphate” has claimed credit for hacking into the official website of Malaysian Airlines, the beleaguered airline has said that no data was compromised.
The attack directed website visitors to a spoof site that pictured a lizard in a top hat, wearing a tuxedo and a monocle, according to Reuters.
One message appearing on the site said “404 - Plane Not Found,” referring to flight MH370 which disappeared under mysterious circumstances in March 2014. A second message claimed the hack was the work of the hacktivist collective Lizard Squad, which has claimed credit for attacks on Sony Playstation and Microsoft Xbox. “Hacked by Lizard Squad - Official Cyber Caliphate,” the message read.
Malaysia Airlines issued a statement, saying “this temporary glitch does not affect their bookings and that user data remains secured."
