Oklahoma man arrested for alleged operation of revenge porn site

An Oklahoma man, who allegedly operated a “revenge porn” website, was arrested and may be extradited to California to face charges levied against him in the state.

According to a Friday release from California Attorney General Kamala Harris' office, Casey Meyering was apprehended in Tulsa, Okla., by California agents working in an eCrime unit.

Meyering, 28, allegedly “facilitated the posting of more than 400 sexually explicit photos of Californians and extorted victims for as much as $250 each to remove the illicit content,” the release from Harris' office said.

As he was charged with five felony extortion counts in a Napa County Superior Court, California law enforcement now seek a warrant so that Meyering can be extradited to the state.

According to court documents, Meyering allegedly operated WinByState.com last year, which “solicit[ed] the anonymous, public posting of private photographs containing nude and explicit images of individuals without their permission,” the release from Harris' office said. “Commonly known as revenge porn, the photos may be obtained consensually by the poster during a prior relationship, or are stolen or hacked.”

California, in particular, has begun to crack down on revenue porn site operators.

Last month, two men in the state were arrested for hacking into email accounts and stealing explicit images of victims to post on a revenge porn website. In that case, the suspects, Hunter Moore and Charles Evens, were charged with conspiracy, seven counts of unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information, and seven counts of aggravated identify theft.

Moore and Evens each face up to five years in federal prison if convicted.
