Many content analysis capabilities, including a built-in URL filter.
Lacks policy flexibility - high price for the feature set.
A good analysis product with adequate features and performance - some good functionality, but a bit expensive given what you get for the money.
This product has quite a few useful features. It uses content analysis to find possible areas of data leakage or problem emails. The appliance can be set to look for matches to phrases that would signal possible spam; words conveying profanity or offensive content; or number schemes, including credit card accounts or Social Security numbers.
Also included in this device is a web filter.
While initial configuration of this appliance is quick and easy, the web interface is clunky and awkward. We found that the initial set-up took just a few minutes. However, the web-based interface is difficult to navigate, and setting rules and policies is a confusing process. The content analysis engine was equally as difficult to use. It took some time working with it to understand its functions.
The Palisade PacketSure appliance has several different deployment options. It can be deployed inline at the gateway, on a hub, on a switch with a span port, or on an Ethernet tap device. However, while it is flexible in deployment, its rules are of average flexibility and rather simplistic in nature.
PacketSure documentation consists of the quick installation card and a PDF manual. The quick installation card details deployment options, basic configuration tasks, update set-up, and creating the default rule set. The PDF manual can be downloaded from the product website. It illustrates all areas of the web interface and product areas including advanced configuration. We found documentation to be easy to follow and well-organized with many screen shots and diagrams.
Palisade offers unlimited phone support and software upgrades for 20 percent of list price. There is also support available on the website for customers. This includes product documents and other downloads. These support capabilities are typical of the product type.
At a cost of $40,000, the PacketSure appliance is not at the low end of the spectrum. For the money, some good functionality is included, but this product falls short in many areas.
