Patch Tuesday preview

On July 2018 Patch Tuesday-eve one industry analyst is setting his forecast for the big day tomorrow.

Chris Goettl, Ivanti's director of product management, security, believes there is an almost guarantee we will see a Flash Player patch, but the odds of Adobe releasing updates for Reader and Acrobat are slimmer as each received patches in May the next round will likely come at a later date.

Goettl is also predicting operating system updates, Office, IE, and probably one or two other updates for SharePoint, .Net, SQL or Exchange from Microsoft.

Chrome and Firefox are also likely done for the month as each has already pushed out new releases, but he did say to look past Patch Tuesday to July 17 when Oracle releases its quarterly report. One that is likely to contain some Java notes.

Another set of updates to keep an eye out for are those centered on CVE-2018-3639 Spectre Variant 4 vulnerabilities. Eight new vulnerabilities were noted in the last few weeks so any company that may be exposed should allow for the rollout to take effect on their network.
