PCI council’s Bob Russo to retire, new general manager named

The long-time head of the PCI Security Standards Council, Bob Russo, will step down as General Manager of the organization at the end of 2014 — he will be succeeded by Stephen W. Orfei.

As the inaugural general manager of the organization, which was created in 2006 by the major payment card providers as an open forum to develop payment card standards, Russo has driven changes to PCI standards, has been a tireless advocate for multilayer security, and the PCI Security Standards Council noted in a press release, has built a strong brand and team.

Although Russo will retire at year's end, Orfei, who's held senior positions at security assessments companies, an international telecommunications firm and the military, will take the reins in September at the 2014 annual PCI SSC Community Meetings in Orlando.
