The Tredyffrin, Penn. Township Police Department is warning residents of an email scam that sends fake speeding citations via email and requests payment be made using an online site.
A local resident notified the police that he or she had received a speeding ticket via email which provided a link and attachments for sending funds to remit the ticket, according to a March 23 Tredyffrin Police Department scam alert. The email requested the driver pay the fine at Citation@safe-browsing.com, but the department said it does not send citations via email or in the form of email attachments.
Police said a “free mobility or traffic App” may have been hacked in order to carry out the scam because the bogus citations contained correct information with respect to speed, time, and location of when the traffic violation took place.
