The Pentagon is looking to go on the cyber offensive against the Islamic State (IS) to help limit the terror organization's online capability.
According to The Los Angeles Times, the military's online warriors, based at Cyber Commad in Fort Meade, Md., have created an array of malware and other online tools that could take the fight to the IS. Part of this initiative comes from a White House directive asking for the military to take a more active role in confronting the IS and its ability to recruit and radicalize Americans via the internet – which is what law enforcement authorities believe happened with the couple who perpetrated the terror attack in San Bernardino, Calif.
However, the Times said the Federal Bureau of Investigation and some intelligence agencies are not in favor of this tactic claiming it will hinder their ability to track and hunt terrorists both here and abroad.
