SecurityScorecard's data continues to highlight the interdependence of business supply chains and the threats unexpected IT issues and cyber risks pose to operational continuity.
Among the 2,000 biggest companies worldwide, 1,980 are tied to a tech supplier that has encountered a security incident or data breach in the near past, underscoring the increasing risks to the global economy arising from cyberattacks involving multiple entities in the supply chain.
In research released to mark the opening day of the annual Black Hat security conference, SecurityScorecard and The Cyentia Institute said they had identified that 99% of the organisations listed on Forbes’ Global 2000 list – which includes many UK multinationals such as AstraZeneca, BP, Diageo, HSBC and Vodafone to name but a few – were exposed to such risk.
