EdgeWave ePrism offers a complete suite of email security services. The EdgeWave email filter provides email defense against internal and external threats such as spam, viruses, spyware, phishing schemes, identity theft and other dangerous or offensive content. The services include inbound/outbound spam and anti-virus filtering, policy categorization and automated seamless directory integration. The email security services assure continuous mail stream flow, protects against data loss and helps fulfill regulatory compliance requirements.
The offering is provided either as a hosted SaaS model or as an on-premise appliance. EdgeWave offers a full family of ePrism appliances. With the hosted solution, customers do not install any client software. One does not need to modify any servers or train staff in the use of EdgeWave technology. Rather, users are presented with lower bandwidth costs, lower mail server utilization and lower archival capacity demands.
We were provided the hosted model for our evaluation. The web-based user interface was decent. Though we would not call it easy to use, it wasn't complex either. With a user-configurable dashboard, one can customize the key items one wishes to see on startup. The menus scroll across the top of the screen with tiles below for personal work areas.
EdgeWave secures both inbound and outbound email. Configuration of mailboxes is typically done through integration with an LDAP database. EdgeWave secures the email server with a secure email service that includes anti-spam and anti-virus, email policy enforcement and TLS encryption. The service also includes adaptive threat detection technology for protecting the perimeter from denial-of-service and other email-borne attacks. EPIC Advanced Threat Defense brings the human element into the defense. Once a threat is identified, EdgeWave engineers analyze it and immediately create a protection rule to block it. The tool offers optional content filtering to detect messages containing specific words, phrases and regular expressions in a message's header, body and plain text attachments.
This product has an added feature that helps with compliance and e-discovery. EdgeWave offers secure email archiving that retains email in an unalterable state to help meet requirements for regulatory compliance, litigation issues, storage management needs or to fulfill business best practices guidelines. EdgeWave Archiving Services are in the cloud, so scalability is assured.
Reporting was very good. EdgeWave supports account-level statistical information reports for inbound and outbound connections and messages for both the hosted and ePrism appliance offerings. Creating reports is easy with the dynamic tool. Users can view or download reports and even subscribe to email delivery on a daily or weekly basis.
Phone and email assistance comes with the subscription 24/7. There are no other support options available. Documentation for this offering was done well and proved accurate.
