What strikes you when looking at the installation instructions for the securiQ and organiziQ Suites is the sheer number of operating systems supported. Although the mail server has to be Lotus Domino, alongside the familiar Windows platforms we see IBM OS/2 and AIX, Sun Solaris and a couple of Linuxes. We're told that from January the mail server will not have to be Lotus Notes, but our review was not able to verify this.
securiQ focuses on the management and security of email traffic, with features such as anti-virus available. This allows you to use your tool of choice, but does seem unfair given the cost. organiziQ manages the administration and overheads incurred by email.
The securiQ suite consists of five components, each one addressing a different aspect of email security. The first, securiQ.Watchdog, is the primary virus protection and attachment scanner. securiQ.Wall is the primary spam filter/blocker and looks for specific words, phrases and images. securiQ.Crypt is the encryption application. It integrates with all major encryption methodologies, and even permits simultaneous encryption by two or more methods.
Since various quality initiatives and regulations, such as ISO9000, require the retention of information for specific periods, there is the securiQ.Safe application to ensure the timely and efficient archiving of relevant emails and documents. Finally, securiQ.Trailer is responsible for adding those irritating - but legally necessary - corporate headers and footers.
Within the organiziQ suite, organiziQ.Clerk manages forwarding of mail to authorized users; organiziQ.Budget works out the cost of email to your company; organiziQ.Smart performs load management across the mail server, while organiziQ.Flash optimizes the number of times the Notes client has to check the server for new emails.
securiQ/organiziQ win brownie points for addressing Notes users, but loses one or two for requiring third party applications, although anti-virus protection is only required as additional protection to the solutions own anti-virus. However, that doesn't detract from the fact that these are very powerful suites of products with an extremely scaleable and flexible architecture, capable of addressing all of your email security needs.
