The Hitachi ID Identity Manager is part of the Hitachi ID Management Suite, which also includes utilities for password and privileged password management. We have seen this product mature over the last few years to become a solid identity management tool. With Identity Manager, administrators can easily onboard new employees, as well as terminate accounts that are no longer needed, synchronize accounts and create powerful identity workflows - all from one application.
Installation of this product, while quite straightforward, requires some configuration other than just double-clicking an installer. Before installation can begin, an SQL server must be set up and configured with certain database parameters in order for the product to install. Once the database is installed and ready to go, the setup executable can be run. This executable launches an easy-to-follow installation wizard and installation takes just a few minutes. After this is complete, all configuration and management is done through the web-based user interface. We found this console to be fairly easy to navigate after some time getting comfortable with where things were and learning how to configure the product.
This tool has a slight learning curve; however, it can be a very powerful provisioning tool. After some time navigating around the console, we found that this product, with its many policy options, can be very configurable to meet the needs of almost any environment.
We found all the documentation to be easy to follow with step-by-step instructions and many screen shots.
Hitachi provides annual maintenance support contracts for customers, which includes unlimited technical assistance via email, telephone, fax and secure remote VPN, Monday to Friday, 3 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, as well as access to all major updates and upgrades to the product.
At a price starting at $33 per user, we find this to be a good value for the money. The tool provides some good features with a fairly easy-to-configure management console.
