Change Tracker Enterprise from New Net Technologies enables organizations to bring their existing environment into a state of policy compliance and then continually monitor and report on changes made once compliant. Change Tracker will instantly report on what changed, who made the change, when the change was made, and if it was part of a planned change. This functionality ensures policy and security compliance throughout many devices on the enterprise network, including Windows-based servers and desktops, Unix and Linux-based servers and desktops, Mac OS desktops, and many network devices, including routers, switches and firewalls.
From the start we found this software-based product to be easy to install and configure. The initial installation process takes just a few minutes and is done by running the installer executable on what will become the Change Tracker server. It can be installed on a Windows 2008 or 2012 Server running IIS 7 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express or greater. The install process is guided by an easy-to-follow setup wizard, at the completion of which everything is set and ready for final configuration.
All configuration and device management is done via the Change Tracker Management interface. We found this to be comfortable to navigate and easy to use. In no time we were adding devices to monitor, as well as running inventory and audit reports. This product also has comprehensive monitoring capabilities. With Change Tracker installed, systems can be monitored using both agent-based and agentless technologies. As mentioned above, these include both server and desktop operating systems from Windows, Mac and Linux, as well as network devices, databases and virtual environments, such as VMware vSphere. By using the various dashboards we were able to easily monitor the overall compliance state of the environment and quickly see if something needed further attention. Additionally, Change Tracker Enterprise is capable of file integrity monitoring across network devices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards including PCI DSS, HIPAA, NERC CIP, SOX, and GCSx CoCo.
Documentation included a few PDF administrator guides and a server specifications guide. There were no installation guides or quick-start guides provided. However, we did find an excellent amount of detail on pre-installation steps in the specifications guide. We found all documentation to be well-organized and easy to follow with many screen shots and step-by-step instructions. We would like to see a guide that specifically details setup and installation of this product, especially as it's a software-based tool.
New Net Technologies offers basic phone support to customers at no cost. Those seeking additional assistance can purchase plans at an additional cost based on the type of aid needed. At a price of around $2,300 for the software, we found this product to be an excellent value for the money. We found Change Tracker Enterprise to be an easy-to-deploy tool that can help manage change auditing and inventory throughout the entire enterprise. This product packs quite a bit of features and functionality for a low cost.
