Retail trade association appoints new VP of cybersecurity

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), an American trade group that promotes public policy advocacy, has announced the appointment of a new head of cybersecurity.

Nicholas Ahrens, formerly of the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Commerce, will now serve as the vice president of privacy and cybersecurity for RILA, according to a recent release.

Ahrens will be in charge of leading the privacy and data security agenda for the group, as well as serving as a liaison between the organization and the government to address “cybersecurity, privacy, data security and related issues.”

Prior to joining RILA, Ahrens served as the special assistant to the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Commerce where he worked on the blueprint for the Consumer Data Privacy Bill of Rights.
