Cenergy

The Cenergy system contains two components, TS.Deploy and TS.Remote, which provide for automated management operations. A major function is the distribution and installation of packages to remote systems, and a package can contain anything from a holiday form to a complete software installation. It can also contain instructions, written in the task definition language, to carry out specific operations at specific times, such as registry changes. Once the packages have been created and despatched, their status and progress on the receiving systems can be monitored. Tasks can also be created to perform routine procedures.

The system has wizards that can automate the process without delving into the programming language, something many administrators are reluctant to do, although their fears are unjustified here.

The programming environment is concise, and creating a new package only requires choosing the appropriate command and completing the details. Predefined packages can perform routine tasks, such as running virus scans at set times.

A powerful "snapshot" facility records the state of system, which can be used to restore the system as part of a "self healing" process, or as a means of aligning configurations across multiple machines.

Inventory functions for hardware and software can be customized for reporting purposes, and as the information is stored in a centralized database, it can be accessed by any suitable application program for further processing.

The system can be administered locally, using the console program, or remotely, by using the remote administration console program installed on another PC or by using a suitable web browser. The remote administration console has the same facilities as the local version except that it lacks enterprise server and agent configuration options, including the "Build Agent Installer" wizard.

The browser-based console is a read-only system, which makes it useful for monitoring purposes while administration functions are performed elsewhere. The system can also support hand-held devices.
