eTrust Single Sign On

eTrust Single Sign On offers SSO functionality across a broad spectrum, from client applications to web applications, secured databases and virtually any networked application. It also offers useful tools to administer users, policies and even sessions.

This last allows users legitimately to initiate multiple sessions, perhaps on different machines, while offering some level of administrator control, including the ability to cancel a session if appropriate.

Roving users are accommodated and Metaframe Application Migration lets Citrix Metaframe users to move between workstations while working on the same application.

Installation is very flexible, though this may be confusing if the manuals are not read in advance. The primary modules are installed individually, as are authentication agents and other utilities. It enables the administrator to define and configure the most appropriate architecture for deployment.

It is by no means limited to passwords for user authentication, but may also accommodate Secure ID cards and a variety of biometrics. There is also an API toolkit, which may be used to integrate authentication devices and methods not yet supported.

There is a wealth of electronic documentation, complemented by a hard-copy introductory manual that provides a useful overview and sets administrators off on the right foot.

Administration tools are attractively presented and logical in their operation, providing an intuitive environment. Users and groups are supported in the usual way and scripting facilitates the automatic activation and provision of user credentials to applications, as well as general administrative tasks.

The product is powerful, flexible and logical in its administration, but it is not a product for the faint-hearted. Busy administrators may like to take time out to understand the underlying architecture.

Integrating eTrust Single Sign On into a typical organizational infrastructure is be difficult in concept, but will benefit from careful planning and, depending on the size of the organization, possibly a phased approach to implementation. The good news is that this product facilitates just such an approach.
