Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition is an enterprise level solution that resides on your network servers and workstations. It provides a centralized management console, which gives the administrator the means to install the anti-virus protection across the network, update virus definitions and simply manage the solution from the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition server down to the clients.
There are a host of new features in this version, from tamper protection, which alerts servers to any registry changes on a client, to Quarantine Purge, allowing you to rid the system of older files kept in quarantine, through to many more useful and enhanced management features that add up to a very thorough set of tools. The documentation is extremely informative.
Installation is relatively easy to progress. Installing the product takes time, not because it is complicated, but because choosing the required components and con figuring the software requires thought and planning.
IP addresses for client machines are also needed, but the whole client roll out is a time saver, even for the smaller SME. Symantec AntiVirus is also scaleable so it will allow for growth. It has been amongst the more consistent contenders for quite some time and in these tests it proved to be more than capable of doing its job.
With the first two tests returning perfect 100 percent scores it went on to the polymorphic test to again provide the 100 percent you would expect.
Second division viruses were no match for it either and the macro test also presented no problems for this seasoned anti-virus solution.
Detection and disinfection is not a weak spot for Symantec Anti Virus, but if there is one area that does need improvement it has to be scan time. In this test it took by far the longest time - 8 seconds in all - to scan a clean directory, and with the majority taking a mere 2 seconds, we felt some improvement may be needed here.
But let's not take away anything from this solution in the detection and disinfection stakes, because here is where it shines.
