SC extends reach in North America with two conferences

SC Magazine is putting the final touches on two major industry gatherings planned for November.

The first is the third annual SC World Congress Conference and Expo, the East Coast's largest information security event, which will be held in New York on Nov. 10 and 11.

A week later, Nov. 16-17, SC Congress Canada will take place in Toronto. This inaugural event serving our neighbors to the north is the newest venue for information security industry leaders to convene to help organizations address the burgeoning landscape of security threats and regulatory mandates.

The New York conference offers insight from many of the nation's leading security experts. Richard Clarke, a former White House counterterrorism adviser and author of the new book Cyber War: The Next Threat to National Security and What to Do About It, will provide attendees with analysis of the broader issue of cyber espionage. In an interactive session titled "12 Hours to Network Meltdown," Col. Mike Convertino, the leader of the U.S. Air Force's premiere information warfare group, and Peter Stephenson, SC Magazine technology editor, will lead hacking teams into a fictitious company that recently deployed a private cloud.

“There's been much talk about international cybersecurity as it relates to attacks on the public and private sector, and at the SC World Congress we are going to address what the future threat landscape will look like – whether it be an individual criminal or a nation-state attempting to take down another country's infrastructure.” Convertino said. “The SC World Congress promises to uncover the tactics and best practices to not only address these issues, but also share additional knowledge and expertise beneficial to anyone in the information security industry.”

In addition to several other keynotes and speaker sessions, SC Magazine is hosting the Security Innovators Throwdown, where leading young companies will compete to share their new ideas, plans and technologies to address today's information security needs. A judging panel made up of security and industry experts, as well as venture capitalists, will determine which vendors among the competitors have the most promising business plans and robust tools to not only tackle today's security challenges but to also garner interest from buyers and investors.

As well, a number of select vendors will be on the show floor displaying their latest products and service solutions. It is a testament to past success that for this year's Congress event in New York, a number of vendors have put their support behind the show, including Qualys, Sophos and Cisco.

Confirmed exhibiting sponsors for the Canada event include Fortinet, IBM Canada, Panda Security, Symantec, Sophos and Hewlett-Packard.

“Through the SC World Congress, SC Magazine is committed to furthering the education and experience of today's information security professionals,” said Illena Armstrong, editor-in-chief of SC Magazine. “This year's event will deliver against that commitment and seek to empower attendees with the necessary tools to strengthen their information security infrastructure for years to come.”
