Two leading managed security service providers (MSSPs), SecureWorks and LURHQ, announced their merger earlier today.
The new company will operate under the name SecureWorks.
Mike Cote, SecureWorks president and CEO, will serve in the same capacity with the combined firm, while Tony Prince, LURHQ founder and CEO, will serve as executive vice president. The remaining executive positions will be filled by a combination of employees from the two companies, the firms said today in a joint statement.
The new company will be based in Atlanta, with offices in Chicago, Charlotte and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Kathy Jaques, senior vice president of marketing and product managing for SecureWorks, told SCMagazine.com today that the two firms are a good match because they've focused thus far on different aspects of MSSP services.
"For SecureWorks customers, there are a few things that will be really important. For instance, a number of our clients had been requesting log analysis, since it's one thing they have to do for compliance requirements. We had one client manually reviewing those for three hours every Friday morning, and he was looking for help with that," she said. "With the new merged companies, we're looking to serve the whole market, from people who want complete outsourcing, to people who want to co-manage."
Prince said in a company news release that the merger is a win-win for both companies and their clients.
"By merging our two companies, we can greatly expand the breadth and depth of our services and that of our research teams," he said. "By combining our threat data and analysis capabilities, our larger research team will have a broader detection network and, as a result, more data from which to identify threats and develop countermeasures."
