Ross Ulbricht, the creator of dark web marketplace the Silk Road, is appealing his recent conviction and sentencing.
Ulbricht received life in prison in May for his dealings and creation of the site. The Hill reports that Ulbricht's appeal primarily takes issue with alleged government corruption that occurred during the investigation of his case.
Members of the Baltimore Silk Road task force were indicted in March on charges of money laundering, wire fraud and theft of government property all while pursuing Ulbricht.
Ulbricht's lawyers found out about the corruption a month before Ulbricht's trial, and they said the prosecution had already begun trying to make that information inadmissible in court.
The criminal complaint against the agents stated that they had tried to steal and convert bitcoins for their own use.
One of the agents also developed additional online personas to engage in illegal activities for personal financial gain.
