Site of grassroots abortion group hacked

A website belonging to the National Network of Abortion Funds, a Boston-based nonprofit which "works to make sure that all people can get the abortions they seek," was hacked around April 7, according to DataBreaches.net.

Phony comments were posted and fake contributions were registered, but there is more concern about the siphoning away of personal information belonging to registered users.

Malicious code was found to have been inserted that enabled attackers to gather credit card information as users donated funds. As well, email and physical addresses of donors was stolen.

While credit protection through AllClearID has been offered to an undisclosed number of users, the possibility of being contacted at home is said to be leaving many of them anxious.

It was reported that the site was using authorize.net for processing credit card transactions, but it has not been established who is responsible for securing its data.
