Specialized IT project managers are in demand

For moving core apps to the cloud or implementing new systems in companies' internal environments, IT project managers are in great demand.

What it takes

In addition to formalized training in project management and certifications, such as the PMP, an IT project manager must be well-versed in software development lifecycles and configuration management requirements. Entry-level programmers may consider pursuing business analyst positions and then their project management office.

Compensation

The range for IT business analysts is $50k to $90k, while IT project managers earn $80k to $125k.
