Study: 17 percent of IT pros confident they can defeat cyberattacks

A recent study conducted by IT auditing firm Netwrix Corporation found that only 17 percent of IT professionals were confident in their ability to defeat cyber attacks and too few resources may be to blame.

The firm's 2016 IT Risks Report queried 826 IT professionals and found 49 and 47 percent of respondents said the most serious obstacles in the way of cybersecurity are respectively a lack of budget and time.

Organizations may also need to review their own practices when assessing security risks. The study found that 47 percent of the security incidents experienced by the respondents in 2015 were caused by “human errors” and 13 percent were due to “insider misuse” while 39 percent were caused by malware.

The researchers recommended that organizations take a systematic approach and invest in technologies like automation to better monitor and analyze threats.
