Sun Microsystems acquires Vaau

Sun Microsystems today acquired Vaau, makers of enterprise role management and identity compliance solutions.

Organizations can use Vaau's solutions to create an automated process for discovering, defining and managing user access, according to a statement announcing the acquisition. Vauu offerings help businesses keep down costs associated with auditing and compliance requirements.

Terms of the deal, which further entrenches Sun as a leader in the identity management space, were not disclosed.

"This announcement further underscores Sun's leadership in the high-growth identity audit and compliance categories, adding both a market-leading solution and proven implementation services to our portfolio," said Jim McHugh, vice president of marketing of software infrastructure at Sun.

The acquisition is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of next year.

This is the second major deal this month in the burgeoning identity access management governance (IAMG) sector. On Nov. 1, Cisco acquired Securent, maker of entitlement management solutions, for $100 million.

Sally Hudson, an analyst with IDC, told SCMagazineUS.com today in an email that the acquisition demonstrates Sun's commitment to the identity management space, joining the likes of Oracle, Novell, CA and IBM as industry leaders.

"Vaau has a solid product offering so this should prove to be a smart move for Sun," she said.
