Syrian Electronic Army hacks Time over Person of the Year poll

The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) stamped its avian emblem on the Twitter account belonging to Time on Friday.

“Syrian Electronic Army Was Here via @Official_SEA16.. Next time write a better words about the Syrian president #SEA,” the hacktivist collective tweeted from the Time Twitter account.

The post was deleted within ten minutes.

The message likely refers to Time's description of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in its Person of the Year poll, which reads, “Syria's ruler presided over a bloody year, shrugging off international concerns over the use of chemical weapons as the death toll of his country's civil war eclipsed 100,000.”

From its own Twitter account, the pro-Assad group, which has gained recognition for compromising media websites with advanced phishing emails, tweeted that it was responsible for interfering with the poll.
