According to McAfee, huge differences exist between the safety of different domain names - for example, one in ten sites ending in.tk, for the tiny island of Tokelau, contains malicious code, popups or other online irritations. However, no malicious code was found on US government sites (.gov).
The company tested millions of websites in 265 top-level domains -more than 95 per cent of the trafficked web - via its SiteAdvisor product.
