UPS AND DOWNS

DOWN - Card fraud 3%

Overall card fraud in the UK has fallen from £439 million in 2005 to £428 million in 2006. This is attributed largely to the introduction of chip and PIN technology.

UP - Online fraud 44%

Online banking fraud has increased from £23.2 million to £33.5 million over the same period. This is a sign of vulnerabilities likely to be an ongoing concern for the banking industry.
