In order to address the demand for cyber security professionals in the UK, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills created a plan to bolster interest in the profession.
The proposal aims to target 11 to 14-year-olds with “special learning materials” on the subject, hoping to spark early interest that could later be supplemented by internship opportunities that will provide them with the experience that future employers are in search of, according to a recent release by the organization.
Additionally, the report includes proposals to offer training for teachers on cyber security, which can then be shared with students, and working with universities that offer certified Masters degrees in cyber security to increase enrollment numbers.
A plan to develop a Massive Open Online Course, an introductory course on cyber security tailored for mass audiences, is also in the works.
