UK team uses Minecraft to find future cyber security talent

Like a scene from Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, private and public sector firms in the UK have teamed up to create a 3D video game platform to help find the next generation of cybersecurity geniuses.

On Tuesday, Cyber Security Challenge UK launched ‘Cyphinx', a 3D virtual skyscraper that will host cybersecurity games, competitions and ciphers as well provide recruitment opportunities for potential cyber security personnel, according to a release. Cyphinx will feature the first use of the game Minecraft as a cyber skill development tool.

Players' scores will be entered onto leader boards to help provide a digital resume for disciplines such as risk analysis, forensic analysis and network defense giving the players the chance to show off their skills.

The platform is aimed at European citizens of all ages but is available to anyone of any age to play.
