VMware source code leaked onto internet

Virtualization software vendor, VMware, confirmed this week that source code from its ESX hypervisor technology was leaked onto the internet. According to a company blog post there is a possibility that additional files, which date back to 2003, could be disclosed in the future. Although the information has been revealed publicly, VMware said there is no “increased risk” to their customers, adding that they promote a broad virtualization ecosystem by sharing their source code and interfaces with other industry partners. An investigation is currently taking place involving internal and external resources, as well as the company's Security Response Center. VMware intends to inform its customers of additional information regarding the matter once the investigation is complete.
