Welcome to the SC Magazine Awards 2008

The SC Magazine Awards is an event that has a long and cherished history of celebrating the information security profession. The awards ceremony recognizes and rewardes those entrepreneurs, visionaries and leaders who have helped us as a collective economic, technological and personal community, sleep a little better at night. Those honored help to develop new technologies, envision new approaches and empower new processes to better protect our critical information, our personal identities and our sensitive transactions. To these innovators and leaders, I say thank you!

Unfortunately, our challenges aren't over, but merely beginning. Our business and technology landscape has become completely global. Our risks are changing dimension and vectors just as our businesses and organizations are evolving to meet the needs of today's world. The information security and protection leaders of today's organizations need to have multiple talents and disciplines. First, they need leadership skills to drive the dynamic and growing information protection organizations they lead. They need real-time risk management skills to predict, react and adjust protection strategies from an ever-evolving set of threats and roadblocks. Also, they need consultative and communication skills to describe these new risks to business and operational leadership so that appropriate actions may be taken.

The information security industry has a long-standing history of being inventive and innovative. From anti-virus tools and network firewalls to identity management suites and data leakage prevention scanners, the vendor community has been focused on the challenges of the day, and has helped us find ways to solve the problems that challenged us and we often felt were unsolvable.

These leading professionals and these leading vendors are the groups and individuals we are celebrating tonight. Their hard work and effort, coupled with inventiveness and creativity, have paved the way for a more secure tomorrow. Congratulations to all!
