White Lodging announces 10 hotels affected in POS breach

Hotel management company White Lodging said Wednesday that 10 of its properties have been affected by a data breach that stretched from July 2014 to February 2015, according to a release.

After a malware incident in 2014, the company "took various actions to prevent a recurrence, including engaging a third party security firm to provide security technology and managed services,” White Lodging President Dave Sibley said in the release. “These security measures were unable to stop the current malware occurrence on point-of-sale systems (POS) at food and beverage outlets.”

Guests who did not use their payment cards at food outlets are not believed to have been affected. The breach impacted hotels in in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Texas, Colorado, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

White Lodge is offering victims a year of fraud resolution and identity monitoring
