Windows to end Vista support in April 2017

Microsoft announced that it will be ending support for Windows Vista next month.

Beginning April 11, 2017, the product will no longer receive security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft, according to a March 17, US-CERT alert.

Windows Vista was first launched nearly 10 years ago on January 30, 2007 and although mainstream support ended for the product in April 2012, Microsoft announced it will soon be ending extended support.  Computers running on the Vista operating system will continue to work after support ends however, users that continue to do so will have an increased risk of their device becoming infected with malware or other security threats.

User and administrators are encouraged to upgrade to a system that is currently supported although it's worth noting this most likely will involve purchasing a new device.
