The Supreme Court in Brazil nixed a ban on WhatsApp imposed by a lower court judge earlier today.

Judge Daniel Barbosa had ordered telecommunications companies Oi, Nextel, TIM and Vivo e Claro with fines of about $15,000 daily to block the app, which is used by 93 percent of Brazilians, after WhatsApp refused to comply with a court order in a criminal investigation.

But Supreme Court Judge Ricardo Lewandowski said the ban was excessive and lifted it just hours after Barbosa issued his order, according to a report by the BBC.

WhatsApp has claimed it doesn't have access to the data requested by law enforcement.
