International commission to create recommendations on internet governance

A group composed of political and business leaders, social justice activists and global academics are gathering Monday and Tuesday to discuss and create recommendation aimed at internet governance.

The Global Commission on Internet Governance (GCIG) is scheduled to meet this week in Ottawa to discuss the pressing topic, according to The Globe and Mail.

This is the third international gathering by the group since its creation in January. The goal of the group is to deliver policy recommendations related to internet governance by 2016. It hopes to preserve a majority of the current unregulated and free qualities the current state of the net possesses.

“There is no guarantee the entire world will do what we recommend…but I'm quite certain that we're going to have a significant impact,” said Carl Bildt, chair of the GCIG and former Swedish prime minister.
