Chaffetz again criticizes OPM for ignoring IG recommendations

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, blasted the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Monday for not following suggestions from the Inspector General (IG) to beef up OPM's internet security capability.

“It's unsettling that despite a data breach that put the sensitive, personal information of 21.5 million Americans at risk, OPM once again refuses to heed warnings from the IG,” Chaffetz said in a statement. “Ignoring the IG's warnings largely got them into this mess in the first place. If OPM wants to regain the trust of Congress and the American people, they must make implementing the IG's recommendations a top priority.”

In September an IG interim status report listed recommendations.

Chaffetz has battled with OPM's administration since it revealed in July that the personal information of about 21.5 million people was disclosed during two separate incidents earlier this year.
