Hacktivist collective Anonymous has launched a new operation that targets the Twitter accounts of terrorists as a response to the recent Charlie Hebdo attacks.
Dubbed #OpCharlieHebdo, the group announced the campaign via a YouTube video to report Terrorist Twitter accounts and have them removed.
In the video, a masked individual discusses the aim of the campaign as well as the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, describing the incident as “bruising” freedom of speech.
On Jan. 7 masked gunmen entered the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and killed ten staff members as well two police officers in the attack. Following the incident, four people were killed in a related shooting by in a kosher supermarket, in addition to a policewoman.
Anonymous has already claimed its first victory in the campaign, taking down a French website associated with extremists.
