Cisco eyes improved security through predictive technology

VentureBeat reports that work is underway at Cisco Systems to develop a predictive network solution that would ensure optimal operation of IT teams' cybersecurity and cloud management abilities as well as customers' and employees network experiences. According to Cisco, the predictive networks technology will use data gathered from various telemetry sources, which will then be analyzed by an artificial intelligence engine to learn patterns, predict potential network security issues and hitches in the user experience and provide options to solve those issues. "The future of connectivity will rely on self-healing networks that can learn, predict and plan," according to Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins.The company said the new predictive network solutions are expected to roll out over the next few weeks across its portfolio, in the form of software-as-a-service subscription packages. These will be made available to businesses of all sizes. Cisco co-Chief Technology Officer J.P. Vasseur said, "With existing security, the technology is based in the cloud and the beauty of it is that we have access to a variety of sources or territory as we speak." "Instead of using the telemetry as a source of observability, we use the telemetry to feed the model that will use it. We will be capable of predicting, so there's no actual threat in any way related to security," Vasseur added.
