Elastic announces acquisition of build.security

TechCrunch reports that startup firm build.security is being acquired by Elastic under undisclosed terms. Elastic expects to conclude the purchase during the second quarter of its 2022 financial year. Under the deal, the build.security technical team will move to Elastic Security as a unit, according to Elastic Chief Product Officer Ash Kulkarni. Kulkarni said the company was drawn to build.security for its use of the Open Policy Agent open-source project as a core element of its technology approach and for the Rego query language that is part of OPA and is used to structure authorization and security configuration policies. Elastic wishes to leverage the Open Policy Agent open-source project in its security and observability efforts, Kulkarni said. "We see policy as a fundamental cornerstone of security. OPA and Rego provide an open, standards-based way to define, manage and enforce policies everywhere," Kulkarni said. Kulkarni said that once the acquisition closes and build.security's technology is integrated into the Elastic Stack platform, users will be able to manage and visualize policy decisions and compliance policies at scale using Elastic Stack.
