Microsofts new Dev Box promises easier work for developers

Microsoft has unveiled two new offerings, Dev Box and Project Volterra, which the company says will help software developers perform their work more securely and easily, SiliconANGLE reports. Microsoft Dev Box is a cloud service that allows software developers to create a virtual, cloud-based workstation into which they can place the programming tools they require for the software project they are working on. Each new workstation takes a few minutes to start up, are easily customizable with different specific tools and configuration settings for developers who are working on multiple projects at the same time and can be secured through security patches developers may install through Microsofts Intune tool. Developers can also implement rules governing user access to each existing workstation. "If a Dev Box is compromised, IT admins can isolate the Dev Box while helping the developer get back up and running on a new Dev Box," added Anthony Cangialosi, a principal group project manager at Microsoft.
