Commack High School student management system hacked

The Commack School District in New York reported Thursday that its high school student management system was accessed by an unauthorized individual.

The district has not released any details on the breach, but believes only a small number of student records are affected. The type of information that could have been collected include, name, student ID number, address, contact information and the student's class schedule. Social security numbers are not in that system, the district said.

Commack Board of Education President Steve Hartman told that no additional information on the breach can be released because the Suffolk Country Police Department has been brought in.

“The district is in the process of hiring an outside technology company to conduct a full electronic security review of the District's student management system and networks in an effort to assure our systems are as secure as possible,” the district said in a statement posted to its website.
