As part of its ongoing campaign against whale hunting, vigilante hacktivist group Anonymous yesterday launched distributed denial of service attacks against Japanese car manufacturer Nissan.

While Japan is associated with the controversial practice, Nissanfor its part has no known affiliation with whale hunting. Nevertheless, thecompany was targeted due to its status as a major Japanese corporation, and wasforced to temporarily take down its domestic and global websites on Wednesday while trafficoverwhelmed them.

To generate headlines and awareness over its OpWhalescampaign, Anonymous has recently attacked Japanese and Icelandic government andorganizational websites, while also championing its cause over social media.
