Russian telecom firm claimed to be hit by Ukrainian hackers

Ukrainian hacking operation Cyber Anarchy Squad has taken credit for the massive cyberattack against Russian telecommunications provider Infotel JSC, which has been offering connectivity services to the Russian banking system, according to CyberScoop. All Infotel JSC infrastructure was claimed to be destroyed by Cyber Anarchy Squad, which also posted the telecommunications firm's network diagrams and a screenshot of a company official's email on its Telegram channel. While Infotel JSC has only noted that restoration efforts are underway, major Russian banks and credit organizations were reported by Ukrainian news outlet Economichna Pravda to have experience widespread disruptions, preventing banking system access and payments processing, as a result of the intrusion. "Infotel was wiped, including servers (backups too) and core routers (configs reset, firmware erased)," said Ukrainian Cyber Alliance spokesperson Sean Townsend, who added that Infotel JSC has been unable to restore BGP routing and would need at least a week to achieve minimal service recovery. Such an attack comes as part of Ukraine's counter-offensive against Russia, which included the hacking of various Russian websites.
