Collins sentenced to 18 months for celebgate hacking scandal

Ryan Collins was sentenced to 18 months in prison by the U.S.District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania for his role in the celebgate hacking scandal.

Collins, 36, pleaded guilty to one count of Felony Information in May 2016 and was sentenced on October 26 to 18 months in federal prison and a $3,100 fine. Collins could have received up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Collins was charged with using phishing scams to gain access and remove sensitive information and photos from the Apple iCloud and Gmail accounts of more than 100 people in 2014. Several of whom were female celebrities.

Collins' sentencing follows the decision Edward Majerczyk, to plead guilty in September for his role in a scandal which saw him use similar tactics for the same purpose.
