A group of men that plotted cyber heists against Santander and Barclays banks throughout London have been sentenced for their crimes.
On Thursday, the gang's leader, Tony Colston-Hayter, 48, received a five-and-a-half year sentence at Southwark Crown Court for his role in the racket, a release from U.K.'s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) said. Along with Hayter, eight other men, aged 25 to 53, were also jailed, bringing the total sentencing for the group to 24 years.
Last September, UK police arrested several men linked to the incidents, where criminals fitted bank computers with a keyboard video mouse (KVM) device in order to give themselves remote access to customer accounts. According to MPS, the device was used to steal around £1.25 million (or $2.1 million) from one Barclays branch via fraudulent transfers.
Four other individuals involved in the conspiracy are scheduled to be sentenced in June.
