A 17-year-old Idaho high-schooler and a middle school student could face felony charges for a series of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against the West Ada School District in Meridian last week.
Investigators say the 17-year-old paid someone to carry out the attacks that caused students and teachers to lose work and online learning materials, according to KTVB news.
As a result, some students had to take the Idaho Standard Achievement Test multiple times. The 17-year-old was suspended after authorities tracked him down using his IP address. Both students, whose names have not been release, could face felony computer charges and up to 180 days at a juvenile detention center for computer crimes if convicted.
The sheriff's office said the teens' families will be held responsible for financial damages caused. Reportedly, no student information was breached in the attacks.
